Program Provide a centrally-located home base for the City's fleet of street sweepers, and do so in an environmentally responsible and cost-conscious way. Design ResponseThis facility reuses the structure of an existing building, saving demolition, materials and construction costs. A large portion of its energy costs are offset by selling site-generated electricity back to the utility company. The garage area is cooled by natural ventilation, and is heated by a solar hot water system. Openings are sized and oriented to allow natural light into the building, while minimizing solar heat gain. Stormwater runoff is kept on site in a bioretention area.
