Program Renovate a WWII-era USO building, located in Wilmington's historic district, expanding on its current use as a community center, while respecting its historic nature. Design ResponseThe structure of the building is retained, and damaged areas are repaired in a historically sensitive manner. Additions are designed to compliment, not mimic, the existing structure, and are approved by the local historic preservation commission. Sections of the basement and crawlspace are converted to usable space, and exterior additions further increase studio and circulation space. Extensive accessibility improvements make the facility's programs available to a broader population. In and around the lobby, recently added finishes were removed to expose the original character of the building. The lobby now serves as a museum, and many historic items are on display.Honors & Recognition Wilmington Downtown Inc.,
